Delicious autumn dishes and cocktails at Puente Romano

Autumn in Marbella does not exactly call for heavy coats and roaring fires. But the change of season does make richer flavours, long dinners and a good whisky cocktail considerably more tempting.

Across Puente Romano, the current menus are full of ingredients that come into their own at this time of year: porcini mushrooms, truffle, roasted vegetables, fig, hazelnut, pumpkin and warming spirits.

So, what should you order?

1. Autumn truffle & porcini risotto at Chiringuito

autumn dishes
Autumn by the Mediterranean: Chiringuito combines beachfront dining with one of the resort's most seasonal dishes.

Chiringuito's current menu includes an Autumn Truffle & Porcini Risotto, bringing together two ingredients closely associated with the season: earthy porcini mushrooms and truffle.

And yes, eating autumn risotto with your feet almost in the sand is a very Marbella way of doing things.

2. Smoked Pumpkin Whisky Sour at Leña

Over at Leña, Dani García's fire-led steakhouse has perhaps the most obviously autumnal cocktail currently being served at Puente Romano.

The Whisky Sour de Calabaza Ahumada combines Hibiki Harmony whisky with smoked pumpkin sugar and citrus.

Pumpkin cocktails can easily stray into dessert territory. This one sounds rather more grown-up.

3. Wagyu tataki with fig and truffle at COYA

Some autumn dishes announce the season. Others simply taste like it.

At COYA Marbella, the current Wagyu tataki is served with red chilli, fig purée and truffle, combining sweetness, spice and earthier flavours. Its menu also currently features smoked shiitake tacos and a seasonal vegetarian ceviche made with smoked beetroot, cucumber granita and feta.

4. Maple Wood Old Fashioned at Bar La Plaza by SIPS

Bar La Plaza by SIPS brings award-winning cocktail making to the heart of Puente Romano.

Summer may favour a spritz, but autumn makes a convincing case for an Old Fashioned.

At Bar La Plaza by SIPS, the current Maple Wood Old Fashioned is made with Maker's Mark bourbon, maple syrup, Oloroso sherry and tonka bean.

SIPS Barcelona was named The World's Best Bar in 2023, and its residency at Puente Romano includes a full menu created by founders Marc Álvarez and Simone Caporale.

For a drink after dinner, this might be our pick of the season.

5. Black truffle tiramisu at Leña

Back to Leña, because apparently truffle need not stop at the main course.

Its Black Truffle Tiramisu combines truffled mascarpone cream with hazelnut praline and cocoa. The same menu leans heavily into flavours that work particularly well at this time of year, from chargrilled leek with truffle mortadella and hazelnuts to truffled garlic bread.

Traditional tiramisu it is not. But autumnal? Absolutely.

6. Whatever is freshest at Sea Grill

Sea Grill's menu changes according to what the sea and the season provide.

For perhaps the most genuinely seasonal approach of all, leave the decision partly to the kitchen.

Following its recent transformation, Sea Grill now creates its menus daily according to what the sea and the season provide, while retaining a selection of established favourites.

That means the best autumn order may not be exactly the same from one visit to the next, which is rather the point.
