Sierra Blanca

Sierra Blanca: privacy & prestige in the hills above Marbella

Set on the foothills of La Concha, just above Marbella’s Golden Mile, Sierra Blanca is one of the city’s most established and prestigious residential addresses. A gated community of grand villas, tree-lined streets and carefully protected green zones, it’s often described as Marbella’s own “Beverly Hills” – a peaceful hillside enclave overlooking the Mediterranean, yet only 10 minutes’ drive from the beach, Puente Romano and the bustle of Marbella town.

If you’re unwilling to compromise easy access to Marbella, but also value your peace and green spaces at home, it offers a very reassuring combination. With proximity to international schools, sports and medical facilities, Sierra Blanca maintains its position in the market as one of Marbella’s most prestigious and enduring addresses.

Sierra Blanca
La Concha, Marbella’s iconic backdrop

Its name comes from the mountain range on which it is located. Sierra Blanca is a mountain range in the Penibetic System, and it owes its name to the whitish colour of its limestone. The peak of La Concha (1215 m above sea level ), so named because seen from the west it resembles the striated shell of a mollusk, is the second highest peak in the range.

Where is Sierra Blanca, exactly?

Sierra Blanca sits immediately above Marbella’s Golden Mile, rising to around 300 metres above sea level. It’s close enough that daily life revolves around Marbella and the Golden Mile, but elevated enough that you feel distinctly “above” the town – with fresher air, open views and less traffic.

A low-density, gated community

Sierra Blanca is a fully gated residential area with controlled access and 24-hour security patrols, designed from the outset as a low-density neighbourhood of large private villas. There are very few plots left for development, which naturally limits future construction and helps protect the area’s character and exclusivity over time.

Security, privacy and discretion

One of Sierra Blanca’s strongest selling points is its sense of seclusion. It has long been considered a safe, “blue-chip” location for those focusing on long-term lifestyle as well as value retention. As a gated community with 24-hour security and controlled entrances, it has long been favoured by high-profile residents who value discretion.

For buyers relocating to Marbella, this means:

Everyday life: what’s nearby?

Even though the community itself is purely residential, everyday amenities are close at hand, meaning this luxury neighbourhood is also a gateway to outdoor life. Sierra Blanca links easily to both the coast road and the AP-7, so you also have quick access east towards Málaga and west towards Estepona and Sotogrande.

Is Sierra Blanca right for you?

Sierra Blanca is ideal if you want a grand, private home rather than an apartment building lifestyle, where you can enjoy the feeling of a secure, residential enclave, without it feeling like a holiday resort.

If you’re starting to picture your life in the hills above Marbella, waking up to sea views, driving down to Puente Romano for lunch, then returning to the quiet of your own garden, Sierra Blanca may well be the neighbourhood to explore first.

Working with a specialist agent who regularly handles properties in Sierra Blanca can be especially helpful, as many of the best homes change hands discreetly and not every opportunity reaches the open market.
