Marbella in September: the best of summer, without the rush

Warm weather, swimmable seas and busy restaurant terraces continue into September, while the peak August crowds begin to ease.

September is one of the easiest months to enjoy Marbella.

Daytime temperatures remain firmly summery, the sea is still warm and the beach restaurants, clubs and outdoor venues are operating as usual, just with fewer crowds.

Beaches are less busy with many kids back in school and a lot of holiday goers back at work, so restaurant reservations are generally easier to secure and traffic begins to improve as the main European summer holiday period comes to an end.

Average daytime highs are around 28°C, although the beginning of the month can still feel very similar to August.

Evenings remain comfortable for outdoor dining all throughout the month, with perhaps a light jacket or cardigan required for evening walks or nights by the sea as the month progresses.

Rain becomes slightly more likely as autumn approaches, but Autumn still offers plenty of sunshine.

Marbella gets around 22 sunny days during September. Weather Atlas gives Marbella an average of 21.8 sunshine days in the month, alongside roughly 9.4 hours of sunshine per day.

Swimming and beach days are still very much part of life in Marbella throughout the month.

The beaches are also noticeably easier to enjoy than during peak summer, with more space on the sand and generally better availability for sunbeds and beachfront lunches.

Traffic generally begins to ease in September.

The A-7 can still become busy during commuting hours and at weekends, especially around Puerto Banús, the Golden Mile and Marbella centre, but journeys are usually more predictable than in August.

Parking also becomes easier as visitor numbers fall, although it is still worth using public car parks in the busiest areas.

Many of Marbella’s international schools begin the new academic year at the start of September, for example, Aloha College opens their new year on September 1st 2026, and Laude San Pedro’s British system on September 3rd, while Andalusian Infant and Primary schools return on the 10th of September 2026, followed by Secondary schools on 15th September.

This means Marbella gradually returns to its normal year-round rhythm during the first half of September, which is when we start to see morning and afternoon school-run traffic pick up again, particularly around Nueva Andalucía, the Golden Mile and San Pedro, even as overall visitor traffic begins to ease.

September is particularly good for:

• Golf, tennis and padel
• Walking around Marbella Old Town
• Visiting Puerto Banús without peak-summer crowds
• Hiking or exploring the hills behind Marbella

Sunrise in Marbella is at around 08:00 on average in September, shifting from approximately 07:50 at the beginning of the month to 08:13 by the end. This makes catching the sunrise progressively more convenient as the month goes on.

You still get most of the advantages of summer, with easier reservations, lighter traffic and a little more space to enjoy them.
